Bin charges
Wirral Council's schedule of charges for domestic refuse and recycling containers.
If you believe that you require additional bin capacity, you must contact Streetscene, using the contact details on the right, before purchasing or presenting any additional bins. Wheelie bins (240 litre capacity): £37 per bin.
These are for terraced, semi detached and detached houses (and in small number of cases multi occupancy properties) where space exists and where it is authorised to present the bin on the kerbside for emptying by the Council's waste collection contractor. Additional bins and lost or stolen bins are subject to conditions and charges vary.
If your bin goes missing on the day of collection or is damaged, please contact Streetscene by phone (0151 606 2004), email (streetscene@wirral.gov.uk) or online, by 5pm the next working day after collection or you could be charged for a new bin. Report a missing bin.
Developers will need to purchase bins at the price above (plus VAT) from the Council for any new developments.
Housing Associations will be charged the above price (Plus VAT).
Please contact Streetscene on 0151 606 2004 for further details.
If you intend to purchase your own bin independently of the Council, then it must be a wheeled bin, comply with the EN 840 standard, be either 140 litre or 240 litre capacity and must be of the correct colour for the type of waste that it will contain (i.e. grey for recyclable waste and green for residual waste). If your bin does not meet these criteria, then it will not be emptied by the Council.
Refuse metal bulk bins (1100 litre capacity, with lid): Rental charge of £74.26 per bin/per year.
Refuse metal chamberlain bins (940 litre capacity, without lid): Rental charge of £44.64 per bin/per year.
These are for large multi occupancy properties, such as flats and sheltered accommodation. This is a private arrangement between the customer and the Council's waste collection contractor Biffa Waste services Ltd and covers the annual maintenance and collection charge for the bin.
Customers can purchase the container outright from Biffa Waste Services Ltd at a cost of £300 per 1100 litre capacity bin and £195 per 940 litre capacity bin. The responsibility for maintenance will then lie with the customer (unless a fault occurs with the bin while in its warranty period or damage is the fault of the Council's waste collection contractor).
Where a customer requests a smaller capacity metal refuse bin, then the charge will be lower than above. Further information can be provided from Biffa Waste Services Ltd on 0151 343 3720.
Recycling metal bulk bins (1100 litre capacity, with lid): £300 per bin plus VAT per bin.
These are for large multi occupancy properties such as flats and sheltered accommodations. Metal recycling bulk bins are to be bought outright from the Council by the customer. The responsibility for ongoing maintenance and repair lies with the customer (unless a fault occurs with the bin while in its warranty period or damage is the fault of the Council's waste collection contractor). Please contact Streetscene 0151 606 2004 for further details.
